BUZZ OFF

FACT:  Though HIV/AIDS is of pandemic proportions in India, malaria carried by mosquitoes, kills far more people, including infants and children.  The use of a “bednet” is a simple, very effective way to prevent the onset of malaria.  Yet, few in rural India can afford to purchase a bednet ($10).

WAYS TO HELP:

1) Read about the malaria-carrying mosquito through library or internet sources.

2) Check the Global Health Ministries (GHM) website (www.ghm.org) to see how you can help your friends or Sunday school classmates learn from the “Buzz off, Mosquitoes” program and how it has worked to combat malaria.  Global Health Ministries is a pan-Lutheran agency in Minneapolis who works with us and on our behalf to “help the hands that heal” in healthcare in India and other global places.

3) Begin now to collect coins in a jar or cup on your kitchen table or dresser.  Pool your money with others in your congregation and send them to the Synod office by September 1 for BEDNETS for INDIA. These designated gifts from around the South-Central Synod of WI will be taken to India by the visiting team in late October, 2007.

CREATE LINKS of FRIENDSHIP

with kids in India

Weave or braid together strands

of thread to create a colorful bracelet

GOAL:  500 friendship bracelets by

October 1st

to be carried as gifts to students

at the NELC Don Bosco School

The friendship bracelet is woven of various colors and textures.  Each strand of thread represents a person with varied gifts that are unique and valued in American children as well as India children.  It will be a gift of remembrance that will link kids from diverse cultures together.

If you need patterns or assistance in getting started, a resource book is available from the Synod’s Resource Center.
