The Peace Team focuses on three issues:
Nonviolence education and training (see Resolution "Education for Nonviolence" adopted by the Synod Assembly, May 2004)
Militarism and War (see Resolutions "Focus on Peacemaking" and "Support for the Troops" adopted by the Synod Assembly, May 2005); and
Middle East Peace (In November 2006, the GCM Leadership decided to combine the work of the Middle East Team with that of the Peace Team. Watch for possible resolutions relating to the situation in Israel and occupied Palestine for the 2007 Synod Assembly)
The Peace Team provides information for members and congregations, educational resources, workshops at Synod events and action alerts. There is a Peace Resources shelf in the Synod Resource Center at the Synod Office. The Peace Team welcomes all members of congregations in the South-Central Synod of Wisconsin. The team meets quarterly (usually on the 2nd Saturday morning with a one-hour business meeting followed by a two-hour forum on an issue related to peace.) There is also a Peace Team e-mail list which receives various items of interest relating to peace-making. If you would like to join, please contact Bonnie Block (608-256-5088 or bblock@charter.net or Jerry Folk at 608-241-8661 or jfolk@tds.net.
