Prayer
Partners
The
council at St. Luke's, Rome, holds one another in prayer between
their monthly meetings. At the end of each meeting, each person
draws another council member's name and then proceeds to pray for
that person until the next council meeting. Sometimes they share
with one another whom they have been praying for. Other times, the
council members just know that they are being kept in prayer as
they move through the month. For more information, contact
Wayne
Pinnow. a member of St. Luke's, Rome.
Family
Resource Center
Sugar
Creek Lutheran Church established a Family Resource Center
as a
part of their celebration for their 150 years of ministry together
as a congregation. The Family Resource Center includes:
- Parenting
Programs
Both children and parents enjoy activities that focus on building
a positive regard for self and others. Parents learn to create
a nurturing home for their families, to use positive behavior
management, to communicate clearly, to manage stress, and to create
a healthy environment for their families.
- Special
Events
Families are invited to participate in planned events sponsored
by the Family Resource Center such as: Sports Night, holiday parties,
picnics, and hikes.
- Parent's
Choice Workshops
Topic suggestions for these monthly workshops come from parents
and the community's need and/or concerns.
- Parent
Support Groups
Moms and Dads can share experiences, gain support, and learn from
each other.
- Family
Drop-In
Families can drop in to enjoy art, fun, songs, stories, and play-time
together.
- Warmline
This is a link to non-emergency support on the day-to-day challenges
of child rearing. It provides confidential sharing and emotional
support from a trained empathetic and objective listener.
- On
The Road
They plan to take brown bag lunch programs to working parents
right in their places of employment and offer evening programs
at schools, churches or other community locations. This would
link our resources with people who want them, in places that are
convenient for them.
Teacher
Training
Recent
research has indicated that satisfied teachers do four things in
the religious education classroom: deepen the worship and prayer
patterns of the participants, create shared experiences, shape conversation
so that the participants talk about the faith in their lives, and
develop longer term projects. Those teachers who focus on these
things are more satisfied than those who do not, regardless of the
curriculum or program in which they are involved. For teacher training
this fall, use these four questions to shape a discussion on teaching:
What are some of the ways we can pray, sing, and read the Bible
together as our class meets? What activities can the participants
do together this year? What are some of the ways young people apply
the Bible or the catechism to their lives? What special projects
may occupy our time and energies in the coming months? The answers
to each question can be listed on newsprint, and may provide good
insights for those preparing to teach this year.
