Name: Bishop George Carlson
Synod Staff Position: Bishop
What you do: I serve as Pastor to pastors and congregation. I preach
nearly every Sunday in a synod congregation and oversee Word and Sacrament
ministry in the synod. I ordain clergy, consecrate Diaconal Ministers,
commission Associates in Ministry and install Pastors, Diaconal Ministers
and Associates in Ministry. I develop vision for synod ministry and interpret
and advocate for the mission and theology of the whole Church. Ecumenical
relationships are my responsibility. I lead in the call process. I handle
conflict management and the discipline of rostered people and congregations.
I do mission consultation, lead the Synod Assembly, and serve on the ELCA
Conference of Bishops. I oversee the synod staff and the roster.
Name: Pastor Michael Rehak
Synod staff position: Associate with the Bishop for Congregational Health
What you do: The congregation's personality shapes its values and
directs its worship, service and missional focus. When the personality
is ignored or its true expression denied, it will act out, often in unhealthy
ways. Ill health of a congregation compromises the effectiveness of the
pastor. My role is to assist congregations in claiming their identity,
help them move to levels of greater health, and to offer support to the
pastors and AIMs. The responsibilities I have to assist in accomplishing
this primary role include: being a resource to congregations, pastors
and personnel for corporate identity and personnel issues, overseeing
the placement of interims, working with congregations in the interim time,
overseeing mobility and assisting with the call process, working with
candidacy, advocating professional leadership development, assisting with
lay leadership development, and relating to congregations in time of conflict.
Name: Scott Austin
Synod Staff Position: Assistant to the Bishop for Stewardship and Mission
Support
What you do: My role as a deployed and shared stewardship staff is
working with synod leadership to strengthen whole life stewardship education
and help grow mission support. I plan stewardship education and leadership
development at congregational, cluster and synodical levels. I serve as
a resource person to congregations, make available stewardship resources
to congregations as requested and develop a mission interpreters network
throughout the synod. I work with ELCA partnerships and networks to implement
the strategy and promote the work of our church. I oversee
efforts to raise awareness of and response to justice issues in congregations
and within synod in such areas as the Hunger Appeal, the Same Gender Task
Force, and economic, environmental, global and peace and justice issues.
I oversee the synod assembly planning and organization.
Name: Marilon Krebs
Synod Staff Position: Administrative Assistant
What you do: My main responsibility is to perform administrative and
secretarial functions for the bishop. This includes managing his calendar
and handling his correspondence and dictation. I also perform general
secretarial tasks for the associates with the bishop. I maintain the synod
roster listing of clergy, AIMs and Diaconal Ministers. I issue Letters
of Call for rostered people being called to our synod and issue transfers
of rostered persons going to other synods. I also work Michael Rehak in
the areas of Candidacy and Mobility.
Name: Lori Richardson
Synod Staff Position: Administrative Assistant
What you do: Hospitality is a main component of my work. I answer
phones and greet people when they arrive for meetings and appointments.
I maintain a database and answer questions as Registrar for a variety
of events sponsored either by our synod, joint synods or the ELCA when
they sponsor events in our synod. I work with the Lay School of Ministry.
I update the Newsletter database, work in managing the Resource Center,
and work on our synod web-site. I am also now doing the synod
financial work.
