Rostered Ministry Options |
|
The ELCA offers four distinct rostered ministries: Ordained pastors are called and ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament. Ordained pastors serve as college and seminary professors, as hospital and military chaplains, as missionaries and as synod and churchwide administrators. Diaconal ministers are professionally trained in an area of expertise such as social work, counseling, teaching, law or medicine. Deaconesses have historically initiated ministries in social service and health care, along with missionary work, education and congregational service. Associates in ministry must have a bachelor's degree and demonstrated competence in one of four designated fields: education, music and the arts, administration or service and general ministries. |
