Mary Froiland, Bishop

Rev. Mary Froiland was elected Bishop of the South-Central Synod of
Wisconsin on September 28, 2013. She served on the Working Group for
Ministry to and with Same Gender Families for the ELCA and is currently the
chair of the Roster Committee for the ELCA, and the Region 5 Bishops'
representative to the Church Council. She also serves on the Board of
Directors at Wartburg Seminary. She most recently served as pastor of Luther
Valley Lutheran Church, Beloit, Wisconsin, where she served since 2000.
Bishop Froiland earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Philosophy
from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN in 1979, and a Master of Divinity
degree from Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1985. She
is married to the Rev. John Froiland, Chaplain at St. Mary’s Janesville
Hospital. They have 3 grown children, one son-in-law, and two grandchildren.

Rev. Erik Jelinek grew up in Billings, MT. He
received a BA in Political Science and Religion from Gustavus Adolphus
College in St. Peter, MN and a M. Div. From Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN.
He has served congregations in Savage, MT and Conrad, MT. For the past 10
years he has served with his wife, Pr. Jennifer Jelinek, at Our Savior's
Lutheran in Beloit. They have two girls, Sierra and Scarlett.
Erik serves as the Director for Evangelical Mission. He is excited to serve
in this position and work with new mission starts and redeveloping
congregations. He has a passion for outreach and is continually looking for
engaging ways to reach out with the gospel message. He also has an interest
in technology and how it can be used to further the mission of the church.

Vicki Hanrahan Serves as your Synod Communicator and
Event Manager. She received a BA in Communication Arts from the University of
Wisconsin and is a 2009 graduate of the synod’s Lay School of Ministry.
Vicki spent the first 20 years of her career in the teleconferencing
industry where her life’s work was about keeping people virtually connected.
Similarly, she finds keeping people in our synod connected to each other and
to the greater church the most exciting aspect of her work. “Together, we
can accomplish so much more than what we can do alone and I’ve seen us do
some amazing things that really do matter as we strive to serve our brothers
As Synod Communicator, Vicki is passionate about communicating where God is
at work in the world in, among, and through Lutherans of our congregations,
campus ministries and worshipping communities in south-central Wisconsin.
She produces the weekly e-newsletter, What
Matters and the quarterly e-magazine,
Walking Together. Vicki also serves
as event manager for the annual Synod Assembly, LEAD, and Bishop's
Convocation and supports synod ministry teams with events throughout the
year. She loves the day of the event when we all gather for
capacity-building and conversation and then leave equipped and excited for

Mobility, Care of Congregations and Youth & Young Adult Ministries

Rev. Steve Kottke joined the Synod Staff as Assistant to the Bishop on June
1, 2014, with primary responsibilities in the areas of mobility, care of
congregations, and youth and young adult ministries.
Pastor Steve is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College and the Lutheran
School of Theology at Chicago. He has served Grace Lutheran Church in
Dodgeville for the past twelve years. Along with his call to Grace, he has
also volunteered with several teams benefiting Dodgeville and Iowa County.
Believing the call to ministry is also a call to the greater Church, Steve
has been active in various capacities for our Synod, including Synod
Council, Synod Executive Committee and Cluster Convener. He completed
Mediation Skills Training through the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center, and
has served on the Synod conflict management team.
Steve and his wife, Jennifer, live in Dodgeville, and are the parents of 3
adult children. We welcome him to this new call and look forward to our
partnership in ministry.
Executive Administrative Assistant

Rhonda Marten has joined the team as Executive Administrative Assistant. She
comes to us with 25 years of Accounting and Administrative experience. For
the past ten years she served at Grace Lutheran Church, Dodgeville as Office
Administrator and Financial Secretary.
Rhonda is very active volunteering at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodgeville
and enjoys helping in several areas during Sunday morning worship. Serving
others is one of her many passions; Sunday School Teacher, Confirmation
Guide, Youth Group Committee and participating in High School mission trips
are some of the highlights of her ministry through her church.
Rhonda and her husband, Steve, live in Dodgeville and have two wonderful
young adult children, Duncan and Gracie. When Rhonda isn’t busy helping her
husband on the farm, you will find her busy gardening, canning, and
immersing herself in the beauty of the land.
She is very excited to be part of such an important ministry and looks
forward to serving our Synod and the greater ELCA.
Part-Time Receptionist & Administrative

Linda Freitag serves as receptionist and administrative assistant. Linda
grew up in Faribault, Minnesota and received her Bachelor’s Degree in
Elementary Education with a minor in Learning Disabilities from Winona State
University. While there she was active in campus ministry. She spent the
first 29 years of her career teaching special education students as well as
second graders in the Verona Area School District where she lives with her
husband, and three children. They are members of St. James Evangelical
Lutheran Church where Linda is active on the Congregational Life ministry
team, Women of the ELCA, bible study, special music and altar guild. Linda
enjoys meeting and getting to know people in a variety of situations. She
and her husband, Dan, are busy attending various school, sporting and
musical events with their three children. Linda enjoys volunteering at the
local library, in her children’s schools, at her church and prior to joining
the synod staff, served as a dedicated synod office volunteer for over a
